Pretty in White

This is a special tribute to my good friend and sister of my heart – Hyun, one of the founding KCC members as she leaves our group to celebrate another membership. 2 years has passed since we’ve travelled on this journey and now here she is walking down the path of matrimony. She kept her promise.
As many had asked how we are connected, I always referred to her as an old family friend from Korea and just recently, I finally matched up the picture to make that association. It’s a faded photograph of our family and probably our last picture in Korea before parting to Canada. There was my father’s good friend, then single and seeing us off to our final destination. Now, my father is reunited for the 1st time with his good friend since then to witness Hyun’s wedding.
It was only 12 years ago when she came into my life from Korea to study and gradually make her life here. And again, I see her for the first time as we engage in this project called Korean Culture Community where she was an integral force and founding member. We made a pact that nothing would disturb our KCC event timeline unless some extraordinary circumstances. Myself, I wasn’t as fortunate as I was served with some personal tragedies during this timeline which seemed almost fateful but I drew strength from those who remained steadfast and spirited to reach the final destination and it helped me manage the grief.
It’s funny how naïve we were to think it would be so simple to pursue this. I always relied on you to make sense during the occasional moments when the tides were high. You were always there for me during the turbulence like calm waters. You are my rock. I hope you enjoyed this beautiful day as we pay tribute to you and your husband. I’m so happy you’ve found your pillar. Love you
