The Road to Carassauga

Let me tell about my journey to Carassauga. It’s been an interesting ride and a fateful one when I’m feeling so lucky. Other days can be quite challenging but I know I need to step back sometimes to see how this wonderful story leads to many stories like the one I will share with you.

Our Korean Culture Community membership has grown this year and I was fortunate to be connected to one of many generous sponsors by our members. Pizza Pizza has joined in our celebration to support our hardworking volunteers and passport outlet sales opportunities. As we were finalizing on details for our collaboration at the Creditview Pizza Pizza location, an interesting individual interjected our discussion with some funny commentaries. His name is Rohan Kanhai, a regular customer to Ms. Nancy’s location and an eclectic individual with many stories to share. He just returned from his vacation to Venezuela and was catching up with his friends at his local stop. He looked into our table and made a remark referencing to his more distant travels to Vietnam, India, and then “where are you from?” He had mentioned that he had many Korean golf buddies but never made it out to Korea himself. I knew this was my opportunity to plug in our Carassauga Event on May 23rd, 24th, 25th.

He then began engaging in conversation with our Indian counterpart and soon enough, they were talking about sports and eventually CRICKET. Mr. Kanhai began pulling out some historical cricket info that our young Indian friend couldn’t make any reference to. As Mr. Kanhai continued with this collection of data, our Indian friend texted his wife to find some resources on this eccentric individual and surprisingly enough, he holds some kind of world record!!

This story is wonderful because it’s so unexpected and since we are a dynamic group, conversations begin to happen. It’s about generations, collaborations, history and technology but best of all, it’s about friendships in our community. Thank you Mr. Kanhai – we will see you at the Korean Pavilion!
